As a stylist, I get hair questions ALL THE TIME!!! I thought it would be fun to occasionally post answers to your questions right here!
If you have a hair question that I haven’t answered and it’s eating away at you, please leave it in the comments below and I will happily answer it in an upcoming post!
Michelle asked:
I use a great shampoo and conditioner that I love, but my hair tends to get dry and tangled . I want to know if I should do a hair mask once a month or something else to give my hair a boost ? Or Is shampoo and conditioner all I really need ?
I’ve never been a stylist that works hard at selling product. I always tell my client what I’m using as I apply it and why so if they buy it’s because they understand the reason and like the result. That being said, I do think that everyone can benefit from the occasional treatment. Hair that tangles easily usually does because it’s baby fine so the benefit of treatment would be to repair any damage caused by brushing out tangles and to add moisture. Since your hair is fine, use a lighter product less often. I love Signature Mask by Oribe and would recommend you use it once every other week to avoid weighing down your hair. Apply it to clean hair in the shower and try to leave it on about 10 minutes. Let me know how it works for you Michelle!
Sugar asked:
What’s your favorite hair product for volumizing?
If you’re really lacking volume I would shoot for a volumizing shampoo and conditioner as well as styling products. I highly recommend Volu Shampoo and Conditioner by Davines and am obsessed with Volumista Spray by Oribe. The spray would be used at the roots before blow drying and adds incredible volume! If you need a boost to your already styled hair, try Powder.Puff by Kevin Murphy. It can be sprinked on the roots of styled hair and you will say VA VA VOOM! Perfect sexy, bed head hair!
Tracey asked:
What is the best shampoo & conditioner for normal hair?
You are so lucky to have normal hair!!! I would define normal hair as not chemically processed, not damaged, not fine or overly coarse, not frizzy or too limp. Those are all issues that women use product to address. You have tons of options Amy! I would look for products that say they’re for Normal hair in the price range you’re comfortable with. For a less expensive option I like Shampure Shampoo and Conditioner by Aveda or Shampoo One and The Conditioner by Paul Mitchell. In the luxury range, I really like Signature Shampoo and Conditioner by Oribe. Let me know what you end up with!
Amy asked:
Your hair is gorgeous, I would love to know how you cut it and what products you use on a daily basis. Thank you!
Thank you so much Amy!!! If you’re referring to my hair in my profile picture, it is actually full of Hot Heads Hair Extensions! When I’m wearing extensions, I usually don’t cut my own hair very often as clean lines make it harder to blend the extensions to look natural. I recently took my extensions out for a short break and I love to be heavily layered with layers around my face. I find it is the most versatile cut for me and gives me tons of styling options! As far as products, I am a huge advocate of not washing daily. I usually wash 1-2 times a week so I keep my product use to a minimum unless I have an event or appearance to do. I use a leave in like Super Shine Moisturizing Cream by Oribe or Young.Again by Kevin Murphy before I blow it out and through out the week may add a little hairspray or Dry Texture by Oribe for volume or texture! If you’re a daily washer you should watch my eHow video about only washing once a week! I explain why your hair gets greasy and how to get to the place where you don’t have to shampoo all the time!
It was so much fun to answer your hair questions and I would love to do it again! Please leave any questions you have in the comments or on my Facebook page!

Hi Tera….I’m curious….when you say you only wash your hair 1-2 times a week, do you still take a shower, get it wet and then blow dry/style it everyday? I wake up with major bed head everyday. I feel like I have to get my hair wet and wash it in order for it to have style. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I don’t get mine wet! Wear a shower cap most days! But if your hair is smashy and wonky, try Foundation Mist by Oribe or Prep by Bumble & Bumble to lightly dampen just the crazy parts and re blow out them!
